In the middle of the 9th century Nin was the seat of the Croatian diocese, with the Church of Saint Anselm being the first Cathedral in the medieval Dukedom (later kingdom). The centre is the same named county, which in the middle of the 10th century was called NONA by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus.
The period is marked by Christianisation, the arrival of missionaries and the influence of the Frankish church. The Bishop is subordinate to the Aquilean patriarch...
