Nin
Nin is located on a small island surrounded by the shallow bay of Nin and the estuary of the Miljašić gully. The main features of the geographical position are determined by the area of Ravni Kotari, Velebit mountain range and the navigational route of the Zadar channel and the Vir sea. The first settlement on the island was founded by the Liburnians in the 9th century BC.
With the arrival of the Romans the Liburnian Aenona was granted the status of Municipium (municipality). In the early Middle Ages Nin was the church and political centre of Dalmatian Croatia. In the mid 10th century Constantine Porphyrogenitus called it NONA. At that time, Nin was ...
